Horton Claims 2nd MMSA Victory at MRP

22 1000cc mini-sprints signed into Moler Raceway Park Friday Night, despite threats of severe weather. Hud Horton took the victory in heat 1, while Ryan Broughton took the win in heat 2.

Rough track conditions plagued the event all night, but it provided an extremely competitive racetrack. On the initial attempt to start the feature, Ryan Broughton made contact with # 86 Andy Bradley sending Broughton’s machine end over end. This triggered a chain reaction, with Ron Steinhauer also flipping after making contact with # 3T Ricky Taylor. All three drivers were uninjured, but unable to continue. On the second attempt to start, Jeff Barnhart took advantage of his outside pole starting position taking an early lead with Hud Horton in quick pursuit. Horton made his way underneath Barnhart and began to stretch his lead. The field was slowed on lap 8 due to a scary crash when #151 Bill Kilgore hit the concrete wall in turn 1, then being hit by 3rd running # 29E Chris Eick while upside down. Kilgore was uninjured, and both cars were retired from the event. On the restart Hud Horton left the field and cruised to his 2nd MMSA win of the season. Following Horton to the line was Barnhart, Andy Bradley, Nick Roberts, and Collin Ambrose coming from 20th starting position to finish fifth to earn the hard charger award.

The MMSA is off Next weekend, but returns to action June 7th at Waynesfield Motorsports Park, a fast 1/3 mile track. This will be a shootout race between the MMSA 1000cc sprints, and Waynesfield’s 600cc sprints. Details to follow soon.
