Pollack Wins MMSA Thriller at Montpelier 6/14  

 

For the first time in several years open-wheeled cars visited Montpelier Speedway in Montpelier, Indiana. The Midwest Mini Sprints brought 14 cars to the Eastern Indiana speedway.

 

Jeff Barnhart and Lynn Ambrose took the heat races. While Ricky Taylor took the dash. A scary incident occurred during the dash, when leader Jeff Barnhart lost steering and went off the backstretch, crashing into a pond. Barnhart was uninjured, but was unable to continue in his machine for the feature.

 

Ricky Taylor took advantage of his pole starting position to take the lead into turn 1. Taylor would eventually be run down by Drew Pollack, sending Taylor to 2nd. Taylor would then loose control coming out of turn 2, collecting Kevin Roberts Jr. Both drivers were able to continue. On the restart Pollack began to stretch his lead, but all eyes were on Andy Bradley and Ryan Broughton who came from 11th and 12th starting positions to move into the top 3. Bradley would take the lead coming off turn 2, sending Pollack to 2nd and Broughton to 3rd. All 3 battled for the lead, but coming off turn 4 with 5 laps to go, Bradley’s machine lost power, collecting Broughton and sending him spinning. Broughton was struck by Nick Roberts, sending both cars upside down. The red would come out, and both cars were retired from the event. Bradley would also retire from the event, leaving brother Scott to challenge Pollack for the win. Pollack would receive constant pressure from Bradley, but would hang on to take his first Midwest Mini Sprint Feature win. Following Pollack to the line were Scott Bradley, Lynn Ambrose, Seth Motsinger, and Jeff Barnhart in a borrowed car to round out the top 5.
