Broughton takes MMSA Shootout at Waynesfield
35 Upright mini-sprints signed into Waynesfield Motorsports Park on June 7th. Jared Horstman and Todd Keen won the 600cc heat races, while Ryan Broughton, Drew Pollock, and Nick Roberts won the 1000cc heat races. Shawn Lewis took the 600cc B-Main to transfer into the main event, and Kevin Roberts Jr. transferred out of the 1000cc B-main.
Nick Roberts and Jared Horstman led the field to the green flag to start the main, with Ryan Broughton making a 3-wide pass going into turn 1 to take the initial lead. Broughton would pace the field for 14 laps, at times getting into heavy lapped traffic. On lap 15, second running Jared Horstman caught Broughton in lapped traffic, taking the point. On lap 18 the field was stopped for a scary flip by #1r Nick Roberts. Roberts was uninjured, and retired from the event. Horstman led the field to the green for a green-white-checkers finish with Broughton in quick pursuit. Broughton dove under Horstman entering turn 3, taking the lead coming to the white flag. Broughton would remain unchallenged for the final lap, taking his first Midwest Mini Sprint feature win. Following Broughton to the line were Horstman, Andy Bradley, Ricky Taylor, and Drew Pollock rounding out the top 5. Kevin Roberts Jr. Earned the hard charger award, after starting 20th and finishing in the 10th position. All cars that raced took home some of the $5000.00 purse as there was a full payout for both B mains Heat winners
