The MMSA winter nationals
are now in the books. Although only 13 cars made the long tow to
south Florida every one had a great time. The track promoter and
fans loved the show the drivers put on and have ask the MMSA to
return next winter. All of the drivers were happy that the great
purses were paid despite the low car count , one racer commented “
it’s 85 degrees in February I would race for free”.
The first heat was taken by Jeff Barnhart with Ryan Broughton
taking the checkers in heat two. Derek Campbell took the early
lead from his pole position he was followed by Hud Horton and Jeff
Barnhart. On lap four Ricky Taylor and JR Roberts tangled in turn
one bringing out the red both were done for the evening. On the
restart Campbell continued to lead. On lap eleven Barnhart’s ride
found a good groove and blasted by Horton and on the next lap took
the lead from Campbell. Barnhart would lead until lap seventeen
when he clipped a infield cone and was sent to the tail. On the
restart Campbell took the lead again with Horton second, But all
eyes were on Barnhart as he was a man on a mission charging
through the field he made it back to third and had a terrific
battle with Horton for the runner up spot. On the final lap
Barnhart cleared Horton to take the runner up spot with Campbell
taking the victory with Ryan Broughton and Seth Motsinger rounding
out the top five.
