MMSA Driver of the Week

presented by Cresent Donuts Shop of Bloomington, Indiana

This week’s driver spotlights it Justin Lewis driver of the #77 MMSA Lightning Sprint.  Justin whom resides in Columbus, Indiana is a junior at Columbus East High School.

(Q) First I would like to congratulate you for winning your first MMSA feature. How does it feel to get that first feature victory?

(A) It feels great, I didn't expect this that early in the season. Still being new to the sprint car and getting a win is a huge confidence builder, and I hope to continue this stretch and build on this every race.

(Q) This was a really big accomplishment to earn a victory so early in your career in the MMSA.  When did you first start racing in the MMSA and how many races have you raced in a lightning sprint?

(A) I've raced 11 races total, 10 in the series.  It's a huge accomplishment to me, especially with having some of the best in the business chasing after me

(Q) When and how did you become interested in racing with the MMSA?

(A) I was watching a USAC sprint car race at Tri-State Speedway, and Chris Baumeyer was sitting in front of me. We talked about racing and he explained a little bit about the cars and told us to come to Brownstown, Indiana and check them out. So my mom and dad went with me to Brownstown Speedway and we came across Andy Bradley, who told us he had a car that would be a great car for us, the next weekend I had a sprint car. Hoosier Speed stuck with me and has helped me become what I am today, and we have all became great friends with the Bradley family and the MMSA series.

(Q) What type of racing have you participated in prior to racing with MMSA?

(A) I raced go karts on dirt for 4 years before getting the sprint car. I raced a series called the Burris Thunder Tour for 2 years, placing top 10 in points both years I raced it. Got rookie of the year in 2010 and my parents and I have kept this racing career going hopefully for the better.

(Q) Where do you see yourself in the future as far as racing is concerned?

(A) I'd love to keep moving up, my dream is to make it to NASCAR, or even an Outlaw ride or USAC ride.

(Q) Tell us a little about how things are going with high school and your plans after graduating from high school.

(A) High school is great, almost to my senior year in a couple weeks. I want to go to UNOH, and get an engineering degree.

(Q) Tell us a little about the changes you made to the appearance of your car this season.

(A) This year we changed the whole car. We powder coated the chassis, changed the whole front end to a midget axel, and went with the Orange. The orange used to be my go kart color, and it was how everybody knew it was me.

(Q) One last question do you have anyone that you would like to thank?

(A) My mom and dad, without them I would not be where I am today, Andy Bradley from Hoosier Speed, that guy has treated me great, and helped me learn everything I know today.
